I actually feel that I've done everyone a favor by creating this. The official version is positively restrained in comparison. Only two canon characters falling in love with the same non-existent fanfic character! Poor Tauriel. I really could have liked her in some other setting. Or even if they'd just left off the unbelievable romance. Why couldn't she just have been an elf who happened to be female who was curious about the outside world and the people living in it and was surprised to find dwarves (that's dwarves plural, not just one dwarf) a lot more relatable and fun than she'd been led to believe? And who, on hearing Thorin's denunciation of Thranduil, was actually ashamed of how her people had behaved and wanted to do something to kind of make up for it? What if she and Legolas really were just friends who enjoyed each other's company, and Thranduil's suspicions about their relationship were both funny and irritating to them? "But, Tracy" some might say, "If there was no romance, it would rob Kili's death of its poignancy!" Yeah, because dying while trying desperately to protect your uncle and king against impossible odds while he is simultaneously trying desperately to protect you and your brother because you're his sister's children and the only hope for the future of his line, but he can't save you because there are two of you and you're both hell-bent on protecting him (which is the way the book had it) isn't heart-breaking at all.

By the way, how does Thranduil have blood or dirt or whatever it is on his left cheek? That cheek is an illusion. There's a huge gaping hole under there. Did he actually pause in the middle of the battle and think to himself, 'I'd better create the illusion of some fake dirt on my fake cheek, or it won't match the rest of me'? That's . . . pretty impressive, actually.

So true! I think this is one of the most awkward movie romances ever, in the same list as Anikin and Padme and Thor and Padme.

I actually forgot they were the same actress, so that is a complete coincidence.
